Todd English Pub, Las Vegas

Let me continue the tradition of featuring international-themed Las Vegas destinations on this blog with the Todd English Pub.  It’s kind of weird eating bangers and mash in the desert, but it’s also kind of weird watching a choreographed fountain show in the desert.  After a few pints of tasty beer, you won’t really think about the weirdness too much.

Luxor Hotel, Las Vegas

Given the current turmoil in Egypt, odds are you probably won’t be visiting that country any time soon.  Don’t worry!  There’s a very safe, very gaudy alternative to flying all the way to the middle east and seeing the Great Pyramids.  It’s in Las Vegas and it’s called the Luxor Hotel.  I’m sure Pharaohs are turning over in their pyramids with this Egyptian-themed casino hotel.  The massive black pyramid houses the hotel rooms and the slot machines.  And the many Starbucks’.  And a food court inexplicably themed as a modern city skyline.  And a theater that has a striptease show and Carrot Top.  Yes, none of this may seem Egyptian, but it’s in a pyramid, and for Vegas, that’s all that matters.

Mandalay Bay’s Bayside Buffet

If you’re visiting Las Vegas, you have to go to a buffet.  “Buffet” is the official food of Vegas*.   If you’re on the Vegas Strip, you have a lot of buffet options, some better than others.  A safe bet is Bayside Buffet at Mandalay Bay.  You’re not going to find caviar and truffle oil here, but you also won’t find trays of mush under heat lamps.

A PG-13 Look at Vegas Nightlife

Many travelers visit Las Vegas to do dirty things.  Filthy things.  Nasty things.  Things illegal in most states.  Or so I hear.  I didn’t really try that side of Nevada’s Sin City.  But when the sun goes down, it’s hard not to wade at least a little in the cesspool.  Here’s my toe-dippin’ night.

Grand Canal Shoppes at the Venetian Hotel

Though casino games are unreliable ways to make money, one certainty in Sin City is that indoor casino shopping areas will make you feel like you’re outside.  The Venetian Hotel is no different.  The one twist?  This mall has a canal running through it.
